BIBD welcomes 97 UNISSA students for Informed Society Programme Visit

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) hosted a study visit for 97 students from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) as part of the Informed Society Programme, an initiative spearheaded by the Information Department of the Prime Minister’s Office. This event aligns with the national drive to educate and engage young Bruneians, bolstering their identity and enthusiasm for contributing to the country’s development aspirations.

During the visit to BIBD, the students were given a briefing on the bank’s role in capacity building and community-building efforts. Haji Mohd Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah, Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Division at BIBD, delivered the presentation.

As a bank that is Bruneian at Heart, BIBD actively contributes to community building through various programs. Projek Tunas, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, is a prime example of BIBD’s community outreach. This program provides essential entrepreneurship training to micro businesses and home-based enterprises, including participants from BIBD SEED, Usahawan Bakarih Yayasan, the Muallafpreneurs consortium, and the 1 Village 1 Product initiative. Through the BIBD ALAF program, for example, BIBD offers comprehensive educational support to students from targeted segments, enabling them to achieve their full educational potential. This support encompasses financial assistance, mentorship, guidance, and skills-building activities which align to current industry requirements.

Touching on BIBD’s capacity building efforts, the participants were briefed on BIBD’s Graduate Management Trainee programme, which is part of the bank’s strategy to nurture future leaders by providing rigorous training and employment opportunities to fresh graduates. The programme is part of BIBD’s commitment to fostering a new generation of skilled professionals in the financial sector.

The students also received information on BIBD’s shariah-compliant products and services, highlighting the bank’s adherence to Islamic financial principles while innovating customer-focused solutions.

The Informed Society Programme involves a diverse array of educational activities such as entrepreneurship projects, briefing sessions, and insightful study visits to leading agencies. This also aligns with BIBD’s values and priorities, as it not only seeks to broaden the participants’ understanding of the collaborative efforts between the government and private sectors but also supports the overarching objectives of Brunei Vision 2035. BIBD’s involvement in this programme underscores our commitment to nurturing a knowledgeable and skilled future workforce that is well-prepared to contribute to our nation’s sustainable development and prosperity.
