BIBD today inaugurated its new 60 kWh photovoltaic (PV) system, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards sustainability and environmental stewardship. Present at the official launch ceremony was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs, Chairman of BIBD.Ā Ā
Also present were senior officials from the Ministry of Development, Department of Energy, Prime Ministerās Office, members of BIBDās Board of Directors and Shariah Advisory Body as well as BIBD management and staff.Ā
BIBD is now the first financial institution in Bandar Seri Begawan to install rooftop solar panels, showcasing BIBDās commitment to a greener and more resilient future for Brunei.Ā
The solar PV system will generate enough renewable energy to significantly reduce the bankās carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 50 metric tons annually equivalent to preventing the emissions produced from burning over 5,000 gallons of gasoline. This environmental effort is comparable to planting 750 trees each year.Ā
Setting a New Standard for the Financial SectorĀ
BIBDās rooftop solar project demonstrates its leadership in sustainable practices within Bruneiās financial sector, serving as an inspiration for other commercial enterprises to incorporate renewable energy solutions. By embracing solar energy, BIBD will achieve significant cost savings that can be channelled towards community initiatives and further improving customer services.Ā
Awang Junaidi bin Masri, Managing Director and CEO of BIBD, remarked during the launch: āAs the first commercial building of a financial institution in Bandar Seri Begawan to install rooftop solar panels, BIBD HQ is leading by example in integrating renewable energy into our operations. Today, as we switch on this solar system, we are doing more than powering a building; we are empowering our community. This installation sets a new benchmark for sustainable practices within Brunei’s financial sector, and I hope it will serve as inspiration for others to follow suit.āĀ
BIBDās efforts are part of a larger, ongoing commitment to sustainability, aligning with Brunei Vision 2035ās aspiration for a dynamic and environmentally responsible economy. The bank continues to take active steps to support the nation’s environmental goals through its sustainability framework.Ā
A Step Towards Community ImpactĀ
The installation of solar panels at BIBD HQ not only reduces the organisationās carbon footprint but also signifies a broader commitment to contributing positively to the community and environment. The savings realised from using solar energy will allow BIBD to invest more into local community initiatives, providing further benefits to the people of Brunei.Ā
BIBD remains dedicated to being a catalyst for positive change, and this solar project is a tangible representation of its dedication to a sustainable future for all.Ā
