Promoting Inclusive Society: BIBD Supports ‘Bersama OKU’ Programme
- Community, Sustainability
Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) yesterday underscored its dedication to fostering inclusive communities and uplifting the social well-being of people with disabilities through supporting the “Bersama OKU: Mewujudkan Kebersamaan” Programme – an initiative by Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (BKISHHB).
This programme, held in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 8th Brunei December Festival, also aims to provide inclusive access to Islamic knowledge and cultural experiences for individuals with disabilities, particularly those with visual and auditory impairments.
The six-day programme, running from 3rd until 8th December 2024, is a collaborative effort between BKISHHB and various government and private agencies and organisations, including BIBD.
Present at a launching ceremony of the event at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday was Tuan Junaidi bin Haji Masri, BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO and members of the BIBD senior management.
“As a responsible Islamic financial institution in Brunei, BIBD is committed to promoting a more inclusive and equitable society. We are proud to support this programme, which aligns with the BIBD Group’s vision of empowering individuals and communities,” BIBD’s Head of Government Relations and Special Projects, Hj Mohammad Yusri bin Hj
Wahsalfelah commented.
“By providing opportunities for people with disabilities to engage in purposeful activities, including in this case, improving Islamic knowledge, we hope to inspire positive change and create a more compassionate and knowledgeable society,” he added.
“We believe that everyone deserves the chance to learn, grow, and contribute to their community. Through this partnership with BKISHHB, we aim to break down barriers and
promote social inclusion. We will continue to support initiatives that empower marginalised groups, ensuring that no one is left behind”.
As a socially responsible financial institution, BIBD is dedicated to driving positive change by empowering vulnerable communities and fostering financial inclusion. Our
Sustainability Framework aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 10 and 17, ensuring that our business practices contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future.
By supporting initiatives like these, we reaffirm our commitment to nation-building and creating a lasting impact.
