BIBD ALAF holds Khatam Al Quran Ceremony

BIBD ALAF, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, marked it’s 10 year anniversary with a Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony to mark the successful completion of the Al-Quran by the program’s students. 

The ceremony was held at the surau of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Secondary School. Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mazanan bin Haji Yusof, Assistant Mufti (Buhuth) at the State Mufti’s Office. Also in attendance was BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO, Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri as well as BIBD Board members, senior management, senior government officials and members of the BIBD ALAF task force. 

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, lead by the Guest of Honour, followed by the recitation of surah-surah lazim, tahtim and tahlil by the BIBD ALAF students. 

The BIBD ALAF students received tokens of appreciation and Syawal hampers, handed over by: Yang Mulia Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mazanan bin Haji Yusof, Assistant Mufti (Buhuth) at the State Mufti’s Office; Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri, BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO; Haji Sofian bin Mohammad Jani, Acting Managing Director of the Brunei Investment Agency in his capacity as BIBD Board Member; Dr Awang Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abd Rani, Dean of the Faculty of Economy and Islamic Finance, UNISSA and Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman, BIBD’s Deputy Managing Director I. 

BIBD ALAF is a CSR program that provides financial assistance, educational support and guidance to underprivileged students to help them pursue their academic goals. The program takes a holistic approach to educational support, covering academic development as well as extra curricular activities that are aimed at moulding the students into industry-ready, well-rounded and well-educated individuals with strong Melayu Islam Beraja values. The program has helped over 300 students since its inception in 2013 and has become a beacon of hope for many students in Brunei. Recently, BIBD ALAF celebrated its first university graduate: Dayang Hajah Nurhafikah binti Haji Awang Bakri has been under the BIBD ALAF programme since 2017 and recently graduated with a Degree in Syariah Islamiah from the Al-Azhar University in Egypt. 

Haji Mohammad Yusri, Head of BIBD’s Government Relations and Special Projects Division expressed his gratitude to the strategic partners from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs, stakeholders, sponsors and volunteers who have contributed to the success of BIBD ALAF over the past ten years. He also emphasised BIBD’s commitment to lifelong education as part of the Bank’s roots in Maqasid Al Shariah and support for Brunei Vision 2035, and expressed hope that BIBD ALAF’s efforts over the years have made an impact in helping to provide opportunities to children from targeted segments and break the cycle of poverty. 

“The success of the BIBD ALAF program is also a testament to the resilience and determination of our students, who have overcome various challenges to pursue their dreams,” said Haji Yusri. “We are incredibly proud of our students, and Insya Allah, will continue to support them in their academic journey.” 

BIBD ALAF has been providing educational support to underprivileged students since its inception in 2013. The program offers tuition, school supplies, and other educational resources to help students achieve their full potential.
