BIBD Contributes Donations to Over 3,000 Orphans

The annual distribution of donations to orphans is a longstanding tradition for Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), spanning over 25 years since its days as the Islamic Bank of Brunei (IBB). Deeply rooted in the Bank’s values, this initiative reflects the Bruneian at Heart DNA – charitable, community-driven, and inclusive. It underscores BIBD’s commitment to uplifting the community and ensuring that no one is left behind, particularly the most vulnerable members of society.

Today, BIBD contributed donations to over 3,000 orphans registered under the Community Development Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, alongside contributions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS). The event also featured the presentation of incentives for orphans who excelled in public examinations under the Excellent Students Incentive Award Scheme for Orphans (Skim Hadiah Galakan Pelajar Cemerlang Anak-Anak Yatim).

The donations were handed over by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, as the Guest of Honor. Also present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of BIBD. BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO, Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri, was also in attendance alongside members of BIBD’s management team.

Also in attendance were Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, District Officers, and senior government officials. The event, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the District Offices under the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to ease the financial burden of orphans and their families in preparation for the upcoming festive season.

In recognition of academic excellence, BIBD also awarded incentives to orphans who achieved outstanding results in public examinations. Seven students who excelled in the Primary School Assessment Examination (PSR) and three students who performed well in the Brunei Religious Education Certificate (SPUB) examination each received B$500. Two students who achieved excellent results in the GCE ‘O’ Level examination were awarded B$800 each, while two students who excelled in the GCE ‘A’ Level examination received B$1,000 each. Twelve students who performed well in the Sijil Sekolah-Sekolah Rendah Ugama (SSSRU) examination were awarded B$500 each, while four students who obtained outstanding results in the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) examination received B$1,000 each.

These awards reflect BIBD’s commitment to empowering youth through education and ensuring that financial challenges do not hinder their academic progress. As a bank that is Bruneian at Heart, BIBD continues to support national initiatives that promote the welfare of the community, in alignment with the Maqasid Shariah and Brunei Vision 2035. The donations and incentives provided are also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

BIBD remains committed to play an active role in initiatives that strengthen the social fabric of Brunei, working hand in hand with government agencies and the wider community to foster a culture of care, generosity, and inclusivity for future generations.
