Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) today held its annual Khatam Al-Quran ceremony to further enliven the holy month of Ramadhan and multiply deeds amongst its staff to fully reap the benefits towards the end of Ramadhan. The month of Ramadhan holds special importance as the holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during this month.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah prior to the Khatam AlQuran event. The event continued with BIBD donating the Waqaf Mushaf Universiti Islam
Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) to the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB).
The Waqaf Mushaf UNISSA is an initiative started in 2011 by His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam who handwrote the opening of ‘Bismillah’ for the Surah Al-Fatihah of the Mushaf. The initiative highlights the importance of the Quran and its teachings in the lives of Muslims and encourages the Muslims to support the dissemination of the Quran in Brunei. BIBD hopes that the donation of Waqafs will inspire Bruneians to increase their sadaqah or give alms especially during this holy month to multiply our deeds and fully reap the benefits of Ramadhan.
The event was followed with a presentation of a congratulatory token to Abdul Aziz bin Noor Nasran, Brunei’s Qari who clinched a top 10 spot at the recent 26th International
Al-Quran memorisation contest in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is hoped that the youth of this country will follow suit and inculcate the habit and interest of reading the Quran to strengthen their faith and enhance their spiritual development as well as develop positive personality traits that are admired in Islam.
Present as guest of honour at the event was, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mazanan bin Haji Yussof, Assistant Mufti (Buhuth), State Mufti Office.
