- ALAF, Community, Outreach
Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently hosted an appreciation dinner to honour the dedicated contributions of strategic partners and stakeholders in supporting the BIBD Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future (ALAF) programme throughout the 2024 academic year. Present at the event was Yang Mulia Mariana Chek bin Bujang, Acting Director of the Ministry of Education’s Department of Schools and Yang Mulia Hajah Mariana binti Hj Jamil, Acting Director of the Ministry of Religous Affairs’ Department of Religous Education. Also present were members of the BIBD ALAF Task Force, educators, volunteers and strategic partners.
The appreciation dinner recognised the essential support of all parties involved, who have been instrumental in nurturing and guiding BIBD ALAF students, empowering them to reach academic success and contribute to national development. This collaboration underscores BIBD’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and character development, in alignment with Brunei’s Vision 2035.
In his speech, BIBD’s Head of Government Relations and Special Projects, Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah re-emphasised the critical role that stakeholders play in the success of the ALAF programme. He stated, “The BIBD ALAF programme has thrived thanks to the steadfast support of our strategic partners, educators, and the entire community. We view this programme not only as a vehicle to help realise Brunei Vision 2035 but also as a platform to produce future leaders of Brunei who are equipped with the skills and values necessary for a sustainable future.”
The event also served as a platform to recognise the achievements of BIBD ALAF graduates, many of whom have gone on to excel in various fields both locally and internationally. The programme has so far supported nearly 300 students, providing them with comprehensive academic and financial assistance to help them succeed.
Several successful graduates from the programme have embarked on fulfilling careers and made noteworthy progress. For example, some graduates have completed degrees in engineering and are now contributing to major companies in Brunei’s oil and gas industry. Others have pursued degrees in fields such as Islamic finance, education, and healthcare, finding employment in key institutions that contribute to the nation’s social and economic development.
Additionally, some BIBD ALAF scholars are continuing their studies abroad, specialising in fields such as pharmacy, mechanical engineering, and economics at internationally recognised universities. These students represent the programme’s long-term vision to foster skilled professionals who will contribute to Brunei’s sustainable development and help realise the goals of Vision 2035.
The event concluded with a note of gratitude from BIBD to all attendees for their unwavering dedication to the ALAF programme. Their combined efforts not only enrich the students’ learning experience but also serve as a source of pride and inspiration for future scholars. The evening served as a testament to BIBD’s ongoing commitment to holistic youth development and community empowerment.
