BIBD Mega Karnival Officially Launched to Celebrate and Give Back to Community

The much-anticipated BIBD Mega Karnival was officially launched today at the Bridex Hall in Jerudong by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of BIBD. This is the first time that BIBD is holding an event of this scale, aiming to create a significant impact by bringing the community together in a grand celebration.

Also present were BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO, Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri, along with BIBD senior management and staff. Senior officials representing the Karnival’s strategic partners, BEDB, Royal Brunei Airlines, Mastercard, Imagine, Peak, and Kristal FM, were also present to mark the occasion.

BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO, Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri said, “The BIBD Mega Karnival is a testament to our commitment to giving back to the community and appreciating our customers’ unwavering support. We hope that through this Karnival, we can bring joy and a sense of togetherness to everyone, while also showcasing our ongoing efforts to support and uplift the community.”

The BIBD Mega Karnival, held from 13 to 18 November, is BIBD’s way of expressing gratitude to the community while celebrating the loyalty and support of its customers. BIBD has also organised three different campaigns exclusively running during the Karnival period, where visitors have a chance to win prizes collectively worth B$300,000, including two brand new cars. These campaigns include the Apply & Win campaign, involving BIBD products; the Transact & Win campaign, where customers earn chances to win through various digital banking transactions and product applications; and the Spend & Win campaign, where customers are rewarded on the spot for their digital transactions from as little as $0.10. Visitors can participate by visiting the BIBD booth, engaging with the activities, and registering for the lucky draw during the event.

As the largest community event ever organised by BIBD, the Karnival features extensive offerings. This Karnival features a wide variety of activities, designed to provide entertainment for families, friends, and visitors of all ages. It showcases over 300 booths featuring 100 vendors, offering a mix of food & beverage, lifestyle, home, travel, Back to School offers, wedding vendors, hobbyists, IT gadgets, car dealerships and many more. The Karnival also features a range of free indoor and outdoor activities, including petting zoo, cat adoption drive, fitness challenges, e-sports tournaments, carnival games and a free movie night under the stars featuring local movies and classic Malay movies, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Following the official opening, the Guest of Honour toured the various booths, including a visit to the BIBD booth, where he officially launched the Digital Komuniti program. The program is an expansion of the Digital Brunei initiative, facilitated by AITI. Digital Komuniti is a collaboration between BIBD and AITI, aimed at expanding digital literacy and promoting online safety awareness, particularly for vulnerable groups in the community, such as senior citizens, low-income households, and youth. These groups are targeted because they are often more susceptible to digital exclusion and online threats, making it crucial to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge. Present at the launch was the Chief Executive of AITI, Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar. The first session of Digital Komuniti will take place during the Karnival itself, targeting members of mukim and kampung consultative committees, with a focus on online safety and scam prevention.

While at the BIBD booth, the Chairman also experienced a range of interactive games and activities that were set up to engage the public in learning about cybersecurity and digital banking. The activities, designed to be both informative and fun, aim to educate attendees on essential skills in the digital age, enhancing public awareness on topics such as online scams and the secure use of digital banking services.

The BIBD Mega Karnival is a celebration for the community, aimed at creating an enjoyable experience for all while fostering the values of togetherness, gratitude, and community empowerment. It is an important platform to not only give back to the community but also to connect and engage with customers and the wider public in meaningful ways.

The Karnival continues until 18 November, with a host of activities lined up including live performances, family games, cultural exhibitions, and opportunities to explore what BIBD and its partners have to offer. Everyone is invited to join in the celebration and make the most of this festive occasion.
