BIBD Plants 300 Trees In Tutong As Part Of Alam Mampan Project
- Alam Mampan, Community, Sustainability
Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) continued its commitment to environmental sustainability with a significant tree planting event, held at Sungai Penyatang, Tutong. The event saw the planting of 300 trees, furthering the progress of the “660 Roots to a Greener Future” initiative under BIBD’s Projek Alam Mampan.
The event was attended by the Chairman of BIBD’s Shariah Advisory Body, Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani, the Ra’es of KUPU SB, as well as Acting Tutong District Officer, Ak. Arif Anuar bin Pg Hj Ahmad. Also present were members of BIBD’s Shariah Advisory Body as well as BIBD senior management and staff.
In line with BIBD’s dedication to fostering sustainability across generations, volunteers from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) and Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) actively participated in the planting effort. BIBD is engaging these young leaders to highlight the importance of this small but impactful action, ensuring they understand its significance for their future. The initiative emphasises that today’s efforts are crucial for ensuring Brunei remains sustainable and liveable for future generations.
By involving youth in these projects, BIBD is advocating for them to become ambassadors of our nation’s green protocol goals by 2030. Their active involvement is key to securing Brunei’s environmental future, and BIBD sees them as vital in driving the country’s long-term sustainability efforts.
The “660 Roots to a Greener Future” initiative, which launched earlier this year, aims to plant 660 trees by the end of 2024. The project aligns with BIBD’s Sustainability Framework, incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into the bank’s operations. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 15, which focuses on the protection and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems.
So far, 600 trees have been planted under the project, with 40 trees in Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, 260 trees in Berakas Forest Reserve and a further 300 trees at the Tutong site. The remaining target trees will be planted in the Kuala Belait and Temburong districts.
Projek Alam Mampan will continue to expand its efforts, with future initiatives including BIBD’s Reef Ball Program, designed to promote marine habitat conservation, alongside upcoming mangrove restoration projects.
These efforts underline BIBD’s dedication to environmental stewardship and reaffirm the bank’s long-standing role as a responsible corporate citizen, committed to creating a greener and more sustainable future for Brunei.
