- Bruneian at Heart, Community, Health and Wellness, Outreach
Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) is showcasing the important contributions of the BIBD Wellness Ambassadors at the BIBD Mega Karnival. Offering free health checks and first aid support, their presence underscores BIBD’s enduring commitment to community health and wellbeing.
The BIBD Wellness Ambassadors programme, established in 2022, represents a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing public health and safety. Launched by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Amin Liew bin Abdullah, the Wellness Ambassadors consist of over 33 volunteers, including BIBD personnel and strategic partners from government agencies. Each member undergoes extensive training in Occupational First Aid, certified by the Safety, Health, and Environment National Authority (SHENA), and is equipped with skills in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Beyond physical first aid, the ambassadors are trained in Psychological First Aid (PFA) and counselling, empowering them to address mental health concerns alongside physical health issues.
Since their inception, the Wellness Ambassadors have actively participated in a wide range of national initiatives, such as health awareness campaigns for World Cancer Day and World Kidney Day, and provided first aid support at major events, including royal ceremonies and public celebrations. Their exceptional service has earned them accolades, including the prestigious Excellence Service Award from the Brunei Red Crescent for lifesaving efforts during emergencies.
To date, the BIBD Wellness Ambassadors have a host of visitors at the Mega Karnival, conducting free basic health screenings that include blood glucose, uric acid, haemoglobin levels, cholesterol, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation checks. Positioned at Hall 2, Level 2, Mezzanine Floor, they have become a key attraction, empowering the community to take proactive steps towards better health. The initiative has been well-received, with visitors praising their professionalism and the accessibility of these vital services.
The Wellness Ambassadors’ presence at the Karnival exemplifies BIBD’s broader vision of fostering a healthier and more resilient Bruneian community. By equipping visitors with essential health insights and providing first aid support, they ensure that the Karnival experience is not only enjoyable but also beneficial for long-term health awareness.
