Shariah Reviewer

Position Summary

To assist and support the execution of the Shariah Review function through the assessment of Shariah Compliance in the Products/Services activities and operations of the BIBD and the Group to ensure that the activities and operations carried out adhere to Hukum Syara’ as determined by the Shariah Advisory Body (“SAB”) and Shariah Financial Supervisory Board (“SFSB”).  This function operates under the Shariah Governance Framework (“SGF”) governed by the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (“BDCB”)

Requirements & Experience

  • Must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of Brunei Darussalam.
  • Possess minimum Degree in Shariah or Islamic Banking and Finance and relevant backgrounds.
  • Possession of any Professional Qualification in related field is an advantage.
  • Working experience in banking is an advantage.
  • Experienced in Audit and/or compliance field works is an advantage
  • Excellent understanding on Islamic Banking Order, Shariah Financial Supervisory Board Order, Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul Fiqh) and Fiqh al-Mu’amalat, Anti Money Laundering, Legal & regulatory controls requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist in formulating, strategising and executing the review plan considering BIBD and the Groups’ Level operations in terms of products, size of operation, location, branches, and divisions in an efficient and effective manner.
  • To assist in execution of the review plan to ensure that the activities carried out BIBD and the Groups’ Level do not contravene with the Shariah requirements issued by SFSB and SAB.
  • To assist in documenting the Shariah Review Program (“SRP”) and its report outcome.
  • To assist in communicating the outcome of the SRP and highlighting any Shariah non-compliances in Products and Services to the SAB.
  • To assist in collaborating the review process with the Internal audit Division on Shariah audit review and with Operational risks management Unit on Shariah risk management review to achieve an efficient and effective bank’s wide risks control.
  • To assist in smooth running the SRP execution.
  • To assist in supporting stakeholders sound control and adequate ring-fence to prevent or curb the Shariah non-compliance risks occurrence or repeat occurrence through reviewing stakeholders’ related policies and Standard operating procedures.
  • To assist in promoting Shariah Compliance awareness and culture to stakeholders through effective meetings and briefings.
