- Community, Featured, Outreach, Partner in Progress
Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) was honoured to be one of main sponsors for ISB’s 60th Anniversary Celebrations. BIBD involvement reflects its commitment to supporting the UN SDG 4: Quality Education. The BIBD support to ISB extends further to the activities around their 60th anniversary celebration which includes planting trees, ISB series of ISB CAREs programs, the 20th ISB Borneo Global Issues Conference and the coming ISB Walkathon, all in conjunction with their 60th anniversary celebrations.
With the support for the 20th International School of Brunei Borneo Global Issues Conference (ISB BGIC), which took place from 25 to 27 October 2024 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas. The conference were culmination of engaging keynote sessions, committee debates, and the General Assembly, students were encouraged to critically examine and propose practical solutions for today’s global challenges, including climate change, economic inequality, and sustainable consumption.
The conference brought together young leaders from 21 schools across Brunei and internationally, providing a platform for students to address pressing global issues aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
BIBD’s sponsorship of the ISB BGIC is an extension of its commitment to education and youth empowerment, and environmental protection under its sustainability framework, which prioritises Environmental Protection, Responsible Entrepreneurship, and Inclusive Social Impact. The bank’s flagship ALAF (Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future) programme exemplifies this commitment by offering financial and educational support to underprivileged students, thus playing a key role in fostering a skilled and resilient workforce for Brunei’s future.
BIBD’s support of the ISB BGIC aligns with its broader commitment to sustainability. The bank was the first private sector organisation in Brunei to partner with the government on Net Zero commitments through the Brunei National Council on Climate Change. The sponsorship of the ISB BGIC further underscores BIBD’s efforts to integrate sustainable practices into every facet of its operations, from financial services to educational initiatives and particularly focusing on the future leaders ie the students at all levels and status. We believe every child deserves quality education and BIBD underscores its commitment to ensure its role will be extended inclusively.
BIBD commends the students for their active involvement and for showcasing the power of youth leadership in driving change. The bank remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that inspire young leaders to pursue innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
BIBD believes that the ISB BGIC and other youth-centred programmes play a pivotal role in shaping Brunei’s next generation of leaders in order to work towards a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future in line with Brunei Vision 2035 and the UN 2030 Agenda.
