BIBD Celebrates Brunei’s Growing Coffee Culture with “Latte Art Throwdown” at BIBD Mega Karnival

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) continues to champion local talent and entrepreneurship through the success of the “Latte Art Throwdown,” a dynamic coffee competition held during the BIBD Mega Karnival. Organised in collaboration with Tampd and the Brunei Coffee Collective, the event celebrated the artistry of coffee-making while highlighting BIBD’s commitment to building a sustainable coffee ecosystem in Brunei.
The competition brought together talented baristas from across the country, judged by a distinguished panel of coffee experts. Among them was Kherwanis Iskandar, a highly regarded figure in the ASEAN coffee industry, known for his expertise and accolades, including consecutive ASEAN Barista Team Championship titles. His participation lent an international edge to the event and provided valuable insights for competitors.
Equally noteworthy was the involvement of local judges, Hazwan Hassan of Tampd Coffee and Ak Md Asr Yazzie Putra Pg Yahya of Poursha Café. Both are highly skilled baristas who have earned accolades in regional competitions, underscoring Brunei’s homegrown expertise in the coffee scene. Their presence reflected the depth of talent within the local coffee community and the progress made in nurturing Brunei’s own crop of qualified and experienced professionals.
The competition concluded with Muhammad Nabeel Aiman Bin Rafedi securing first place, followed by Dyg Ayumi Qistina Binti Awg Hj Abd Kadir in second place while Dk Durratul Hana Bte Pg Hj Saifuddin and Mohammad Adam Fadhullah Danial Bin Mahali came in third and fourth place respectively. Their exceptional latte art designs and technical mastery showcased the passion and dedication thriving within Brunei’s coffee community.
Commenting on the event, BIBD’s Chief Marketing Officer, Hjh Nurul Akmar binti Hj Mohd Jaafar, said, “Brunei’s coffee culture has blossomed in recent years, driven by the creativity and entrepreneurship of our youth.
