BIBD contributes B$100,000 for Palestinians in Gaza

In a display of solidarity and compassion for the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has donated B$100,000 to the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023. This contribution reinforces BIBD’s unwavering commitment to supporting with the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and actively participating in initiatives that align with the principles of the Maqasid Shariah.

The donation was officially handed over to the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad and the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman by BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO, Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri,  emphasising the Bank’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond financial services.

Tuan Junaidi said, “As an Islamic financial institution, we are unwavering in our commitment to upholding the Maqasid Shariah. Furthermore, as a Bank that is Bruneian at Heart, we stand ready to support the government in initiatives that align with the Maqasid Shariah and reflect the core of both our Islamic principles and our Bruneian identity.”

He added, “BIBD is honored to donate to the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023. In extending our support, we hope that these donations, alongside those from fellow contributors, will bring meaningful benefits to the resilient people of Palestine, In Shaa Allah”.

The Government of Brunei Darussalam, in a statement through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, strongly condemns the continued violence in Gaza, including the recent bombing of the Jabalia refugee camp, that has already taken a heavy toll with civilian casualties, especially women, children and elderly.

BIBD’s donation serves as a tangible manifestation of Brunei Darussalam’s empathy and commitment to assisting those in need. The handover ceremony symbolises the collective efforts of individuals and institutions alike, coming together to assist those affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
