BIBD Holds Tree Planting Event As Part Of Alam Mampan Project

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD)recently organised a tree planting event as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. The event, which was held in collaboration with Green Brunei,  saw the participation of volunteers from BIBD, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), with support from the Forestry Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

A total of 260 trees were planted during the event, contributing to the “660 Roots to a Greener Future” initiative under BIBD’s environmental project, Projek Alam Mampan. Launched in May with an inaugural planting of 40 trees at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, the initiative aims to plant 660 trees across Brunei by the end of the year. The next phase will see trees planted in the Tutong, Belait, and Temburong district.

This initiative aligns with BIBD’s Sustainability Framework, which reflects the bank’s unwavering commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen. The Sustainability Framework is designed to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into the core of BIBD’s operations, ensuring that the bank contributes positively to Brunei’s long-term economic, social, and environmental goals. BIBD is dedicated to adopting sustainable practices in all aspects of its business, recognising the vital role that corporate entities play in promoting environmental stewardship.

Projek Alam Mampan is one of the key initiatives under this framework, designed to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The “660 Roots to a Greener Future” project directly addresses SDG 15: Life on Land, focusing on protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources.

BIBD’s Chief Marketing Officer, Hjh Nurul Akmar binti Hj Mohd Jaafar, commented, “At BIBD, we recognise the critical importance of environmental sustainability and are committed to driving initiatives like Projek Alam Mampan. By actively contributing to the preservation of Brunei’s ecosystems, we are reaffirming our long-standing commitment to be a responsible corporate entity that prioritises the well-being of our environment and future generations.”

In addition to the tree planting initiative, Projek Alam Mampan is set to expand its efforts to address marine and coastal ecosystems in line with SDG 14: Life Below Water. A key upcoming initiative is BIBD’s Reef Ball Program, which offers a unique opportunity for the community to engage with marine ecosystems and contribute to important habitat conservation efforts. This programme follows through on BIBD’s activities during World Ocean Day and highlights the bank’s holistic approach to environmental conservation. In addition to the Reef Ball Program, BIBD is also planning mangrove restoration projects, further demonstrating its commitment to protecting Brunei’s coastal ecosystems. These efforts underscore BIBD’s dedication to restoring and preserving Brunei’s diverse ecosystems, both on land and at sea.

Through Projek Alam Mampan, BIBD continues to demonstrate its leadership in sustainable finance and corporate responsibility, reinforcing its vision to contribute positively to the nation’s environmental objectives and ensuring that Brunei remains a green and thriving country for generations to come.
