BIBD Launches Ramadhan Eco-Bazaar: Supporting Sustainability And Digital Economy

In a significant move towards fostering a sustainable and digital economy, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) launched the BIBD Ramadhan Eco-Bazaar. The launch of the bazaar was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II and BIBD Chairman, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs.

The BIBD Ramadhan Eco-Bazaar, strategically located at BIBD Connects Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, is an initiative running from 15 March to 7 April 2024, and is the first of its kind to be organised locally, supported by strategic partners Ministry of Home Affairs, Brunei National Climate Change Council, Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRE) under the Ministry of Development as well as local NGO’s – Zero Waste dan a green small enterprise – BioField. It is aimed at creating an empowering platform for local businesses to showcase and grow their brands. By providing this avenue, BIBD fosters an environment where the community can actively participate and support local entrepreneurs, thus strengthening the national economy and promoting sustainable business practices.

In alignment with Brunei’s vision towards a sustainable future, the Bazaar emphasises the importance of reducing environmental impact. Vendors and attendees are encouraged to embrace a sustainable lifestyle by utilising BIBD QuickPay for transactions, thus promoting a cashless marketplace. Moreover, the initiative supports JASTRE’s No Plastic Bag initiative and Zero Waste (SDG 12) under the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat’s mandate by encouraging participants to bring their own reusable items such as tumblers, tupperware, and shopping bags.

The Bazaar is not just a marketplace but a celebration of BIBD’s commitment to sustainability and digital innovation. It serves as a testament to BIBD’s dedication to leading the way in environmental stewardship and the advancement of a digital economy.
