BIBD Sponsors Intellectual Discourse Organised By The Brunei Prisons Department

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) was a key sponsor of an Intellectual Discourse organised by the Brunei Prisons Department titled “Low Self-Control in the Context of Crime and Society”. This event marks the first of its kind in Brunei Darussalam, featuring esteemed Adjunct Professor Datuk Dr. Zafari bin Zulkifli from Universiti Putra Malaysia, who shared his insights based on extensive research on Low Self-Control (LSC) theory. The discourse delved into the factors contributing to criminal behaviour, drawing from studies of incarcerated individuals and linking these findings to broader societal implications.

Presentwas Yang Mulia Dayang Nor Hamidah binti Haji Hamidon, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Safety and Well-being), Ministry of Home Affairs, as the guest of honour, alongside 200 attendees consisting of senior government officials, community leaders, corporate representatives, and academics.

As a bank deeply rooted in Bruneian values, BIBD’s sponsorship reflects the Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting government initiatives that build stronger communities and contribute to the nation’s development. This event aligns with BIBD’s shared vision for a more inclusive society, where all individuals are given opportunities to thrive and contribute meaningfully.

In line with the Brunei Government’s goals under Brunei Vision 2035, Maqasid Al Shariah, and the guiding principle of Taat kepada Raja (Loyalty to the Monarch), BIBD’s support for this event highlights its alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

As a bank that is Bruneian at Heart, BIBD believes in the power of community-focused initiatives that drive social progress and uphold the values of unity and collective responsibility. By working hand in hand with local stakeholders, BIBD hopes to build a future where Brunei continues to prosper economically, socially, and spiritually.

The event also underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in crime prevention. BIBD’s dedication to giving back to the community they serve remains a core principle, and the Bank is committed to continue to engage in efforts that uplift and empower all segments of society.
