Supporting the Empowerment of Digital Wargamas

– Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) participated in the “Digital WARGAMAS,” a quarterly outreach program dedicated to enhancing the digital literacy
of Brunei’s Warga Emas community. Organised by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI) of Brunei Darussalam, this day-long initiative aimed to equip senior citizens with essential digital skills and knowledge to navigate the online world safely.

The official launch of Digital WARGAMAS was conducted by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Rajid Bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The program featured informative sessions on online safety, scam awareness, and digital banking, with talks delivered by experts from various sectors, including banking institutions.

One of the program’s highlights was a step-by-step guide on utilising mobile applications for online transactions and payments, presented by the Zainol Amin Hj Mohd Jaafar, Manager, BIBD NEXGEN Channel. Hjh Nurul Akmar binti Hj Mohd Jaafar, BIBD’s Chief Marketing Officer of BIBD, shared her thoughts on the initiative that resonates with the Sustainability Framework for BIBD, “BIBD’s participation in the Digital WARGAMAS program reflects our unwavering commitment to inclusivity and community empowerment. Ensuring that every segment of society, including our esteemed Warga Emas, has the knowledge and tools to thrive in the digital era is a core of BIBD’s values. By supporting initiatives like Digital WARGAMAS, we reinforce our dedication to fostering financial literacy and digital resilience, ensuring that no one is left behind in the evolving digital landscape.”

She added “Recently we’ve seen an increase in online scams that prey on the more vulnerable members of society, so this initiative is definitely a step in the right direction to make sure that our elders are empowered with the right knowledge, understanding of the risks and benefits of technology and acquire relevant skills.”

Digital WARGAMAS reflects a collective effort to bridge the digital divide and ensure that Brunei’s senior citizens are well-equipped to participate in the digital age. BIBD remains steadfast in its mission to build a digitally inclusive future for all, where everyone, regardless of age, can confidently navigate the digital realm.
